Air Travel

We all love to travel as students. Be it exploring the bush lands and metropolitan cities in Australia, or the natural landscape of New Zealand and Fiji, there is no better time to travel than when in University! Well, the only problem is of course Money, or rather, the lack of it!!

(Lastminute.com.au)
Want to save on traveling? Check out (lastminute.com.au). Like all travel websites, they offer you a one-stop service, which lets you source for flights, hotels, holiday gifts, travel insurance, car hire and so much more. You can also subscribe to their weekly newsletter and look forward to receiving the latest, hottest travel deals. There are even free electronic travel brochures for you to download off the website.

My favorite feature of lastminute.com.au is that for domestic travel, it allows you to compare all the prices of all domestic flights offered by Qantas, Virgin and Jetstar. Just go to ‘flights’ page, and you will find a link to direct you to the domestic ticket prices. You can see and compare the cheapest domestic air tickets offered by the above-mentioned airlines, from any departing airport to any local destinations, all in one page! This is really convenient one-stop information travel website which will help you save lots of time on research as well as money.

Other popular and established travel websites that offer similar services are

STA Travel
They are the world’s largest student, youth and budget travel organization. Offers similar services as the above-mentioned websites. The biggest difference is that they cater significantly to youths and students, with a huge number of travel discounts exclusively for this group. After all, they did claim that their core purpose is to make travel affordable and attainable for young people. Go to www.statravel.com.au for more details.

A great feature offered by STA travel is their International Student Identity Card (ISIC). It costs $18 to join, and you would need to provide proof that you are a full time student. Once you have the card, you get to enjoy up to 30 000 discounts not only in Australia, but also from all over the world. So you can look forward to 20% off at Hungry Jacks, 15% off at Borders and much more!! Visit the STA travel website for a detailed list of all the discounts available in Sydney.

To be eligible, you would need to be a full time higher education student studying at least 26 weeks per year with 15 hours of contact time per week, or in full time secondary education aged 12 years and above. You can apply for the ISIC at any STA outlets or through the STA website.

HOT TIP!!
Check out Virgin Blue at (www.virginblue.com.au) for one of the cheapest domestic airfares you can find. Virgin Blue has special ‘Happy Hour’ deals from 12-1pm (AEST) everyday. You can find real steals to a selection of local destinations. e.g. Sydney to Gold Coast for as low as $20 (tax included) sometimes. These special rates are only available through the Virgin Blue website. Of course the flight times are often not the most convenient but at those super low prices, who can really complain…
