Kingsford
This neighbourhood is highly popular among students. Centred between Randwick and Maroubra, it is situated at the lower end of the University of New South Wales campus with Anzac Parade Road running through this vibrant suburb which is home to numerous international students from UNSW.
It is an established dining hotspot which offers an incredible array of eatery choices to choose from. Most of the restaurants are of Asian cuisine, with popular ones such as “Kingsford Chinese Restaurant” and “Delicious Chinese Restaurant”. A few new eateries that just sprang up recently are “Straits Kitchen”, “Tropicana Singapore” and “Sinma Laksa House” that serve pretty authentic Singaporean dishes. There is an amazing number of Indonesian restaurants along the stretch as well such as the ‘must-try’ “Ayam Goreng 99” (awesome chilli that draws crowds), “Ayam Goreng Jarkarta” and “Palembang”, just to name a few. Most locals would grab a bottle of wine from one of the ‘Bottle Shops’ and head for restaurant-style dining and enjoy a cosy dinner at places such as “In Chan” (Thai) and one of the few Italian restaurants such as “Mama Theresa” and “Giovanna”. “Regent Hotel” and “Churchills” offer cheap succulent steaks at the pub with a beer on weeknights under $10 and it’s a great place to watch and cheer on a game of rugby or football with friends. Most Asian students would hang out at “Tea Inn”, a Taiwanese bubble tea joint that serves a wide selection of Taiwanese dishes and recently a hot pot special just for the winter.

Though one would first be greeted by the overwhelming selection of restaurants Kingsford may offer, however walking through the stretch you find that there are actually a full range of services and shops that provide a variety of facilities such as six different banks (ANZ, Commonwealth, National, Westpac, St. George and Laiki), mobile network providers, post services, optometrists, medical needs and especially Asian groceries stores such as Hidaka (tip: sells international calling cards at less 10%), Oriental, Canaan Grocery (Korean products), IGA (mini supermarket) and Thai Kufar (Thai grocery store). It is also of great convenience for students that many computer outlets and shops that provide photocopying and printing services are located along Kingsford although it would be good to hunt for a good bargain and compare the prices among the highly competitive shops. Other services include laundry services, hairdressers, a newagency, video rental stores (include Asian) and real estate agents (L J Hooker, n g farah and Laing & Simmons). It is also worth mentioning that a cake shop called “Peartree” sells delicious soft cakes which can be pre-ordered for birthdays and weddings.

There are modern apartments, complexes, townhouses, duplexes that you can rent privately from tenants that are situated either above the stretch of shops along Anzac Parade Road or behind the main street which has quieter surroundings.
