Coogee
Situated near the UNSW campus and at the east of Randwick, Coogee is a favourite seaside suburb among locals and visitors during summer weekends. Walking down Coogee Bay Road towards the beach, the long slightly steep slope is filled with restaurants of diverse cuisines, thriving cafes, fish and chips stores and professional retail outlets and services such as florists, hair care and beauty salons on both sides of the road. There are also medical and pharmacy services, newsagencies, video stores, a supermarket (Woolworths) and small stores that sell fruits and meats. With such a densely populated tourist area, there is also an ever increasing number of Internet Cafes, Travel Advisors and Backpacker Support Agencies.
Coogee Beach is a great place to eat, body-surf and swim. During summer days, the beach is usually packed with beach-goers from all walks of life just relaxing on the fine sand of the beach and soaking in the warm sun rays to get a golden tan. Families or groups of friends can be seen enjoying a nice relaxing picnic in the open lush parklands. The free outdoor barbeque facilities by the beachside are so popular among the local community it forms queues by the sizzling plate. It is also worth taking a beautiful coastal walk that stretch to connect the shorelines of Clovelly, Bronte, Tamarama, and Bondi beaches. By sunset, visitors and locals enjoy the great hospitality and exciting night-life of the Coogee Bay Hotel, the Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach and Coogee Palace bars and the night local pubs.
There is quite a number of accommodation choices including budget backpackers’ lodges (Wizard of Oz Backpackers, Indys Beachside, surfside backpackers), holiday apartments (Medina Executive Holiday Apartments), or boutique hotels (Coogee Bay Hotel, Crowne Plaza, Dive Hotel) and luxury self catering rentals.
