Best movies deals!
Here are some of the more popular (and cheaper) places to catch your favorite movies.
Hot tip – Are you a movie junkie? If so, you must definitely check out this website: (http://ninemsn.yourmovies.com.au). It is a great one stop movies website, with information like lists of movies currently showing, reviews, interviews etc. You can also create a customized list of your favorite cinemas. You are then able to check and compare all the movies and their screening times at your all your short-listed cinemas in a single page (Saves you time from looking them up from the individual cinema websites). You can even make bookings from this website.
Ritz Cinema
The cheapest cinema around town is the Ritz cinema. It is located at Pauls Street, Randwick; just 10 minutes walk from the UNSW campus. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, and $9 for student concession (Student IDs will have to be presented during purchase of ticket to enjoy concession price). On Tuesdays (except public holidays), tickets cost only $7. But for the latest blockbusters, but sure to arrive earlier if you want to get good seats. The cinema is a little run down and the sound system is not fantastic, but for the price they are charging, who can complain?! As quoted from the cinema’s website (www.ritzcinema.com.au), you won’t find better prices in Sydney!

Hoyts (Westfield Eastgardens)
Another great place to catch your favorite movies is at the Hoyts Cineplex at Westfield shopping mall, Eastgardens. Drive down Anzac parade towards Maroubra, and then turn into Bunnerong road to get there. It is only 15 minutes drive away from the UNSW campus. There is ample free parking. The cinema is significantly better than the Ritz, with more comfortable seats, better sound systems and bigger screens. And it is only a tinge more expensive; $12.50 for adults and $9 for students. On ‘super Tuesdays’, all tickets are priced at $9. You can book your tickets online but it will incur a booking fee of $1 per ticket. Do take note that seats cannot be reserved even for online bookings, so do get there earlier to get good seats.
Hoyts (Fox Studios)
It is just a stone’s throw away from UNSW campus (10 minutes drive), at Bent Street, Moore Park. Travel along Anzac Parade from campus towards the direction of the city to reach fox studios. Parking is available (1st two hours free before 6pm, flat rate of $6 after 6pm). Ticket prices: $15.50 for adults, $12 for students. $9 ‘super Tuesday’ discounts apply.

Greater Union (Bondi junction)
Like Hoyts, this Cineplex located in the Westfield shopping mall (Bondi junction) offers a great movie experience with its plush seats and digital surround sound. It is however pricier. Adult tickets cost $15.50 and student concession $12.30. On Tuesdays, all tickets cost just $8.50. Online bookings are also available for an extra charge of $1 per ticket. At Greater Union cinemas, you get to choose your seats for advance bookings made. So you just have to show up on time, and not queue outside the theater for good seats.
Greater Union (George Street)
Located in the city along George Street, 10 minutes walk away from Chinatown. Tickets are priced the same as that of Bondi Junction. However, as most of us know, finding parking in the city can be quite a hassle, not to mention very expensive. Bookings can be made from (www.greaterunion.com.au).
